Ingredients  Half cup grated beetroot, one and half cup plain curd, pinch of black pepper powder, pinch of chaat masala, salt, and chopped coriander leaves.

For tadka  Refined oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing (asafoetida), and curry leaves. Alia said she cannot eat the salad with this tadka.

Step 1  In a bowl, mix together the grated beetroot and curd.

Step 2  Season with black pepper powder, chaat masala, and chopped coriander leaves.

Step 3  Heat oil in a pan for the tadka. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, and curry leaves. Let them splutter for a few seconds.
