Paytm payment bank and the Paytm e-wallet have lodged an FIR against fraudulent numbers. They filed this FIR against 3,500 numbers. Paytm stated that the telecom companies are not taking any measures to restrict these calls and take appropriate actions against them. Customers are being duped via messages and calls. Paytm CEO Satish Gupta stated that telecommunication sectors have addressed the issue of online fraud, but yet have to address the issue of fraud calls.
While many other platforms had been suffering from this problem, Paytm was the first one to come out with an official statement. Paytm feels that such bulk calling and messaging facility should not be provided to fraudsters. And if there is a complaint filed against such fraudulent companies, the telecom sectors should take immediate effective action.
Cellular Operators Association of India(COAI) states that they are compliant with the TRAI guidelines and have taken the necessary actions. The TRAI had taken necessary actions against such fraudulent companies. The telecom companies have been taking rigorous actions. The TRAI had also initiated a system where the individual customers could report such activities.
The major concern is SMS shortcodes that are used by cybercrooks. These shortcodes use company names to fool and trick their clients. Such issues were being faced by Paytm on a regular basis and hence the outrage of reporting it.
