While most of the companies are on a layoff spree, Amazon India has decided to add around 50,000 people to its workforce on a temporary basis. These seasonal roles will be a variety of roles for the fulfillment centers and delivery network including part-time flexible work opportunities as independent contractors with Amazon Flex.
In its 4th phase of lockdown, the Indian Government has allowed e-commerce deliveries across the country in red, green, and orange zones. The containment zones are still barred.“We want to continue helping customers all over India get everything they need so they can continue to practice social distancing. To enable this, we are creating work opportunities for close to 50,000 seasonal associates across our fulfillment and delivery network. This will also keep as many people as possible working during this pandemic while providing a safe work environment for them.” said Akhil Saxena, VP, Customer Fulfilment Operations, APAC, MENA & LATAM, Amazon, said in a statement.
The company also plans to enter the food delivery business in India, which is dominated by Swiggy and Zomato as of now.
