Amway, a leading player in the direct selling industry, expects India to emerge as one of its top three global markets within the next five years, according to Amway India’s Managing Director, Rajneesh Chopra. Currently, China, the U.S., and South Korea are Amway’s top markets globally, with India positioned among the top ten.Â
Speaking on the company’s strategic vision for India, Chopra emphasized that Amway is not merely focusing on financial growth but on transforming lives. “We have 550,000 active distributors and over 2 million customers. Our goal is to increase our customer base to 5 million over the next five years,” he stated. He also expressed confidence that India is poised for significant growth, both in the nutrition and beauty segments.Â
In line with this ambition, Amway has invested $4 million (approximately ₹35 crore) in establishing four research and development (R&D) centers across India. These centers, located in Gurugram, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Dindigul, are aimed at accelerating product development to cater to both Indian and Southeast Asian markets. The R&D facilities will focus on producing innovative products in nutrition, beauty, and personal care, using premium botanical ingredients.Â
“India is one of our top priority markets globally,” Chopra added, underlining the company’s commitment to enhancing its presence in the region. The new labs will not only support India’s growing market but will also play a crucial role in Amway’s export initiatives to Southeast Asia, including countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, as well as South Africa.Â
Amway’s Director of Innovation and Science for India and Southeast Asia, Shyam Ramakrishnan, further highlighted the strategic importance of India as an innovation hub. “Having an innovation hub in India allows us to harness the incredible Indian talent pool and support the country’s ambition to be a significant contributor to global wellbeing,” Ramakrishnan said.Â
Regarding past legal challenges, including accusations by India’s Enforcement Directorate, Chopra maintained that Amway is committed to full legal compliance. He affirmed, “We will continue to ensure 100% adherence to India’s laws and regulations.”Â
Amway’s expansion efforts in India are closely aligned with the government’s “Make in India” initiative, as the company seeks to boost its exports while continuing to meet the evolving needs of Indian consumers.Â
