Cyrus Mistry, former Tata Sons Chairman, Passed Away

Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry died in a sudden car crash on Sunday. The tragedy has yet again highlighted the high number of fatalities that annually occur on Indian roads. 

As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), approximately 1.5 lakh accidental deaths occur on India’s roads every year, out of which one-third are accounted for by National Highways. 

The luxury car in which former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was traveling, hit a divider killing Mistry and Jahangir Pandole, was driven in high speed and both sitting in the rear seats without wearing seat belts. According to the reports, after crossing the Charoti check post in Palghar, the car covered 20km in only 9 minutes. Police said on observing the CCTV footage captured at the checkpoint around 2.21 pm.  

A preliminary police probe found that an error of judgment by the driver, Anahita Pandole, has also been pointed out.  

Doctor attending to Cyrus Mistry and Jahangir Dinsha Pandole said Cyrus Mistry was brought dead, but Jahangir Dinsha Pandole died during the transit. 

Cyrus Mistry had a head injury and Jahangir Dinsha, had a left leg fracture and head injury.
