E-commerce sites to consider listing of products’country of origin

E-commerce players in India like Amazon & Walmart’s Flipkart are considering asking their sellers to list the country of origin for products on their platforms.

The decision was a highlight of a conference that took place in the context of an online retailer meeting organized by the Department of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Federal Ministry of Commerce.

This move takes place in the midst of India’s efforts to identify and reduce Chinese products following a clash between the two neighbors on a disputed Himalayan border.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Amazon and Flipkart have agreed to compel their seller to display country of origin for all products.

A group of approximately 70 m brick-and-mortar retailers, The Confederation of All India Trader, sought support for the boycott of Chinese goods from tycoons, including India ‘s richest, Mukesh Ambani.

A state-owned Indian e-commerce portal has begun to show country of origin as well as products sold on it.F
