India evaluating ban on 275 more Chinese apps

Chinese Apps

Following the ban on 59 Chinese applications, the government is reviewing 275 more applications for breaches of national security and privacy. The new list allegedly includes Tencent-backed mobile app PUBG, AliExpress, ByteDance’s Resso and ULike, another Ludo World mobile app, and Xiaomi’s Zili, media sources indicated.

Other applications from Meitu, LBE Tech, Perfect Corp, Sina Corp, Netease Gaming, Yoozoo Digital, among others, are also being scanned. The applications being checked are suspected of exchanging data with Chinese authorities.

An official from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) said that the Center would pursue due process before enforcing such a ban.

On 29 June, India banned 59 Chinese phones, including TikTok by ByteDance, citing risks to national security.
The government’s decision followed a confrontation between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, which further heightened border tensions along the Line of Control.
