Western digital has recently launched a range of hard disk drives for Raspberry Pi, single board micro-processor computer on the market. A range of hard drives enters with name of WD PiDrive Foundation Edition drives. These drives will consist of the customary New Out of Box Software OS installer which is loaded onto these drives. The Raspberry Pi’s official Operating System, Raspbian PIXEL can be installed directly through WD’s microSD card. These drives will include features such as projects spaces, partition of the drive. The Raspberry Pi’s product, Raspian Lite will help users to develop more than four projects on a single drive.
These drives will be coming in different capacities ranging from 64 GB to 365 GB. In the market today there are three different capacities of flash drives available like a 314GB hard disk drive (HDD), a 250GB HDD and a 64GB flash drive. The HDD drives will include WD PiDrive cable which will produce optimal power for operations of these drives. These drives will cost around $31.42 (£22); it is almost 31.4% compared to its RRP of $45.81 (£32). As suggested by Raspberry Pi, “At this size, it’s probably most comfortable to you for everyday Pi use, which offers more capacity to store in the comparison of your regular 8GB SD card.” They further claim these drives, product of WD, will work fine for which they have provided with four USB slots.
Western Digital is a US based computer data Storage Company. It is one of the biggest hard disk drive manufacturers around the world for PC and Laptops. Dave Chew, chief engineer at WDLabs said; “This next-generation WD PiDrive products consists a USB HDD or USB Flash drive to operate the OS which runs the multiple Raspberry Pi projects rather than to have them working this on a set of microSD cards. We all worked as a team to design and produce these drives for users.”
