Three Semiconductor Projects worth ₹1.25 lakh Crore will have their Foundation Stone laid by PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it will be a “special day” in India’s efforts to become a hub for semiconductors.

Through video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the groundwork for three semiconductor projects valued at over ₹1.25 lakh crore today. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) released a statement on the occasion stating that he will also speak to young people around the nation.
Three major projects—the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facilities in Morigaon, Assam, and Sanand, Gujarat; the Semiconductor production facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), Gujarat—will have their foundations erected.

“13th March 2024 – a special day in India’s efforts to become a hub for semiconductors. Tomorrow, will take part in the ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat’ programme and lay the foundation stones for three semiconductor facilities worth over Rs. 1.25 lakh crore,” Modi said in a post on X.

“Among the highlights of the programme will be the participation of students from over 60,000 institutions. I would urge youngsters, and particularly those passionate about tech, to join tomorrow’s programme,” he added.

According to PMO, the projects are in keeping with the prime minister’s goal of making India a leading worldwide hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development, which will provide a large number of job opportunities for the young of the nation.
Under the Modified Scheme for setting up semiconductor fabs in India, Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) would establish the semiconductor manufacturing facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). This would be the first commercial semiconductor factory in the nation, with an investment exceeding Rs. 91,000 crore.

With an approximate investment of ₹27,000 crore, Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) would establish the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility in Morigaon under the Modified Scheme for Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP).
