On Sunday, Tokyo extinguished the Olympic flame in a ceremony that reflected the restraint of the games, which were defined and altered by the worldwide pandemic, brilliant sport, and intensely personal suffering.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia carried India’s flag into the Tokyo Olympics Closing Ceremony on Sunday, joining flag-bearers from other national Olympic contingents to commemorate the end of the 17-day Games.
Punia along with other flag bearers of the country walked to the centre of the stadium where they were surrounded by lamps, as whole area was lit up to celebrate the hard work of everyone in Olympics 2021.
Around 11,000 athletes from 200 countries competed in the Olympics. India did its best ever haul by gaining seven medals.
A salvo of multicoloured pyrotechnics lit up the night sky moments after the flame was extinguished in the Olympic stadium, as athletes were already leaving for the exits.
When the closing ceremony was momentarily turned into a park with grass, buskers, and BMX riders, they were given a strange view of daily Tokyo life. The scenario was set up so that they might see Tokyo, because many of the participants spent their time at the games locked up in hotels or competing in venues.
Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said that the Tokyo Games were held well, and it gave hope to the entire world.
“I think we can already now say with confidence that we have come across a very successful Olympic Games,” he added.
