In a strong reaffirmation of its commitment to India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to explore the establishment of a Greenfield Manufacturing Facility at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. Based in Karnataka, TKM already operates with world-class facilities, including two advanced units in Bidadi, that bolster India’s position in the global automotive industry.

The MoU was signed in the presence of notable dignitaries, including Mr. Eknath Shinde Ji, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis Ji and Mr. Ajit Pawar Ji, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Ministers.

Representing TKM were Dr. Harshadeep Kamble (IAS), Principal Secretary (Industries), Government of Maharashtra, Mr. Sudeep Santram Dalvi, Director & Chief Communications Officer, and senior TKM officials such as Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura, MD and CEO of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Ms. Manasi Tata, Vice Chairperson, and Mr. Swapnesh R. Maru, Deputy Managing Director.

Since its entry into the Indian market in 1999, Toyota has increasingly recognized India’s significance, making it a key market globally. Embracing the values of “Grow India – Grow with India,” Toyota has been dedicated to expanding its operations in line with national priorities like skill development, localization, and ecosystem growth.

The support from the Government of India and the state of Karnataka has been crucial in laying a foundation for Toyota’s growth, enabling the company to advance to the next stage of expansion. Over the past 25 years, Toyota has established itself as a benchmark for innovation and manufacturing excellence, significantly contributing to economic and social development. In Karnataka alone, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and its affiliates have invested over INR 16,000 crores and generated nearly 86,000 jobs across the value chain. Toyota’s cumulative export contributions are approximately INR 32,000 crores, reflecting its global export focus. Additionally, Toyota has positively impacted over 2.3 million lives through various social initiatives aimed at improving grassroots quality of life.

The proposed new facility aligns with TKM’s expanding product portfolio, rising consumer demand for high-quality products, and growing export orientation. This investment in a Greenfield Manufacturing Facility will emphasize advanced green technologies and high-quality products and services. Once finalized, the investment is expected to be made over several years, potentially leading to significant job creation and economic growth in the region.

Strategically located, the new facility will enhance TKM’s ability to meet business and logistical demands more efficiently, broadening its market reach both domestically and internationally, and offering substantial growth opportunities.
