Asia Policy Director and Senior International Counsel at Digital Rights Group – Raman Jit Singh Chima said that –
“In 2021 we are experiencing significant rise in enforcement of strict obedience for digital platforms in India. As Twitter was being used to send messages to many companies, it realised too late that it had become a target of many.”
On Android phones Twitter’s active users has increased to 10.03 million from 7.85 million between January 2021 to May 2021.
Rules and regulations by Indian government for data protection on social media platforms like twitter is creating stressful situation for digital platforms in India.
Raman Jit Singh Chima continues “As Twitter’s engagement and public response with tech advocacy groups, authorities and media has been very irregular with the challenges they were facing, if they were more public with the issues, it would have been easier for its allies to defend the company from the Indian government’s backlash.”
