Bajaj Auto Planning to Re-Launch Chetak in India

Bajaj Chetak, one of the bestselling scooters from the Bajaj’s product lineup since 1972, is set to make a comeback in India. Bajaj Auto stopped the production of Chetak in 2006, which was powered by 145cc two-stroke engine producing 7.5 hp of power and 10.7 Nm of torque. Though Bajaj reintroduced the scooter in 2006 with an upgraded four stroke engine, but it failed to gain popularity, as India banned two-stroke engines and also the market was shifting towards motorcycles.
But in the recent past the popularity of scooters have increased dramatically, with Honda, TVS and Hero leading with their products in this sector. Speculated to be launched in 2017, Bajaj Chetak is expected to roll out with all-new design and power packed features to lure the customers. It is also expected that, Chetak would prove to be a tough competitor for Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter and Hero Maestro in the segment.
The company is yet to disclose the specifications and features, but customers are expecting it to be packed with features such as: disc brakes, mono-suspension setup, premium seat upholstery and large storage spaces.
To maintain the contemporary look, Bajaj has equipped the new Chetak with large head lamp cluster, sleek turning indicators at the front and large air vents at the center. It is expected that the Bajaj Chetak will roll out two models to be powered by 150 cc and 125 cc four stroke engines with an automatic gear box
