IIT-D and ReNew Power Ventures sign an MOU, India gains in Clean Energy Sector

Sumant Sinha-led ReNew Power Ventures Pvt. Ltd., a leading Indian renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD) in the presence of the Honorable President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, to set up a best-in-class research facility on renewable energy.
The MOU is aimed at encouraging and nurturing talent in the field of renewable energy at IIT Delhi campus. It will assist in encouraging opportunities for academic research to advance India’s fast growing renewable energy sector.
The MOU establishes a Chair in the area of Renewable Energy and storage with representatives from both the entities. It also proposes research and training programmes for representatives of ReNew and IIT, Delhi to lead or participate in. Under this initiative, the Center of Excellence in Renewable Energy will provide advice papers and status reports for the Government of India and multilateral organizations on renewable energy policy matters. This will not only provide numerous opportunities for prospective renewable energy scholars but also develop a thought process around India’s position as a rising renewable energy nation worldwide.
Sumant Sinha, a recipient of the prestigious “Renewable Energy Leader of the Year 2015” award at the National Awards for Excellence in Renewable Energy in July 2015 and the “Excellence Award-2015 in Renewable Energy Sector” by the Energy and Environment Foundation in August 2015, is a B. Tech graduate from IIT, Delhi, an MBA graduate from IIM Calcutta and a Master’s degree from SIPA, where he was a Dean’s fellow. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a National Talent Scholar.
ReNew Power has close to 3,000 MW, of commissioned and under-construction clean energy, capacity across the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
