Sir, as an inspirational leader in the industry, could you take us back to the beginning of your journey? What motivated you to step into this dynamic ecosystem?

My professional journey began in accounting, but I quickly realized that I was drawn to roles where I could work closely with people and solve real-world challenges. This realization led me to the logistics and supply chain domain, which is dynamic, fast-paced, and critical to customer satisfaction and economic growth.

Initially, the shift came with its own set of challenges: long working hours, remote postings, language barriers, and even self-doubt about my choice. However, my mentors and an inner resolve to prove myself kept me going. Over time, I discovered that the ability to make a tangible impact on ground-level operations and customer experiences aligned perfectly with my aspirations.

At the core of our success lies a steadfast commitment to integrity, trust, empathy, and excellence. These values not only drive decision-making but also guide our interactions with clients, stakeholders, and team members.

My leadership philosophy centres around trust, empowerment, and creating opportunities for growth. I believe in giving people challenging roles and trusting their ability to rise to the occasion. Controlled pressure, combined with support, often brings out the best in individuals.

Over the years, I have seen team members grow by stepping into roles they initially hesitated to take. As a leader, my role is to guide, motivate, and provide an environment where people can thrive. This not only enhances performance but also builds a culture of ownership and accountability.

The industry’s essence lies in innovation, disruptions, and enhancing the end-user experience. How does Ingram Micro India strike a balance between operational efficiency and customer satisfaction?

Operational efficiency and customer satisfaction are two sides of the same coin. While efficiency ensures that processes are optimized for cost and time, customer satisfaction ensures that these processes align with end users’ needs.

We achieve this balance by continuously refining our operations using real-time data and feedback while ensuring flexibility to adapt to unique customer requirements. This dual focus ensures that operational excellence translates directly into a superior customer experience.

One of the most memorable challenges was navigating the COVID period and ensuring that we continued to meet our customer and business expectations even during that testing time. The industry needed the support of technology for activities like remote work at that critical juncture. The challenges of COVID, however, threatened to disrupt the supply chain and our employee morale. However, by working closely with our team and engaging in open dialogue with all stakeholders, we managed to overcome the testing time triumphantly. We received a lot of appreciation and accolades from our customers and other stakeholders.

What stood out was my team’s resilience and ingenuity. Their willingness to go the extra mile and commitment to the company’s objectives turned a potential crisis into an opportunity to strengthen relationships and trust.

Businesses are a way for the Indian industry to pace up its economic potential and capacity. What would be your advice to other budding entrepreneurs who aspire to venture into the startup space?

For aspiring entrepreneurs, my advice is simple:

  • Embrace failure: Test your ideas, and if they fail, learn and move on quickly.
  • Invest in people: Your team is your greatest asset; nurture them and show them you care.
  • Stay curious: Continuously learn and adapt to ensure your offerings remain relevant.
  • Think long term: Invest in technology and innovation with a view to sustainability rather than immediate returns.

The entrepreneurial journey is challenging but immensely rewarding for those who remain committed, resilient, and open to change.

Looking ahead, what is your vision for Ingram Micro India? How do you aspire to continue making a significant impact on India’s industrial landscape?

While I cannot disclose specific organizational goals, my vision is clear. In the short term, I aim to enhance my leadership and strategic management skills, complete my next book, and achieve personal milestones like running a full marathon.

In the long term, I aspire to contribute to the growth of India’s supply chain and logistics sector. As a mentor and coach, I also aim to help young professionals and students develop the skills and mindset needed to succeed in this rapidly evolving industry.
