Dr Manish spoke in an interview with insights success for its edition of ‘India’s 40 Under 40 Brightest Business Leaders.’ Let us get educated and counselled from the following highlights of that inspirational discussion.
Sir, please tell us about the saga of your reputed business since its inception.
It was started long back in 2000 by me along with my mother Mrs Rupali Baruah Das. Since then, my role as an educator and counsellor has evolved over the years. And the experience was great because every time we get new listeners, a new environment, different schools and sometimes the same schools. Beyond this, we do a face-to-face session with most of the students and try to know their problems and give the best solution by measuring their potential with the psychometric test, questionnaire and different activities where we try to take 360-degree views of the peer group etc.
What was your inspiration behind venturing into the business arena?
My Mom who wants to prove something worth doing as we are the first in our family to start a social business. It was her brainchild and back in 1990 she was the First lady career Counsellor from North East India in the year 2000, we had formed our organization and now it is 2022 almost 32 years for my Mom and 22 years for me. We continuously work in this field in all four seasons and have different branches in different parts of Assam.
Apart from my mother, my father – Late Kulendra Das – Former Assistant Conservator of Forest and a Class-1 Gazetted Officer of Assam Government and in his memory, we have launched one of our firms KEF – Kulendra Das Educational Foundation – where we provide scholarships to meritorious and financially backward students with all feasible help from our end.
And my third inspiration is my grandfather – Late Radhika Ram Das – Former Education Minister of Assam and Freedom Fighter of India, Tamra Patra Awardee from Prime Minister of India, Principal of University law College and Dean of Faculty of Law of Gauhati University, Guwahati.
What were the initial challenges that you had to surmount to ensure your business’s success rate reached greater heights?
Many like – financial competition, surrounded by negative thinking people always try to demotivate you but we had trust in ourselves. My mom always says to me, son when defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans were not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.
I follow this mantra every day. That is how we have reached millions of people through our various foundations. More than money-making or popularity seeking, our business is about giving opportunities to those who are outside the purview of government help. It is challenging but immensely satisfying.
What professional values and qualities do you think your clients value in you and your company the most?
They are
- Trust: We are recognized by Govt. of India as well as Govt of Assam as we earlier participated in Govt training programs of PMKVY, District Municipality Training, District Industrial Training, Skill India, NSDC, Donear Ministry, etc. We have a great Alumni Network.
- Quality: In 32 years we never compromised with our quality education institutes and our priority services. We are recognized by top Colleges and institutions for our quality services. Besides this, we had done seminars, events, and education fairs where top colleges like VIT, AMRITA VISWAPEETAM, and SATYABAMA were organized for the very first time in Dibrugarh in 2018.
We were always first to take an active role in the field of a pioneer with assured results and success without compromising our quality that’s why we are ISO 9001:2015 CERTIFIED Organization and also an MSME unit with National NGO registration from New Delhi to do welfare in the education sector.
- Commitment to deadlines: We set deadlines for ourselves and for those whom we serve. And once given a commitment, we stick to it and fulfil it no matter what.
- Result-oriented approach: we always believe growth is the only way to touch new endeavours and set a goal for the benchmark of success and due to which we overcame the pandemic. And today we are working like never before and going ahead strong.
- Treatment of Equality: For us everyone is equal. Thus, we treat whoever approaches us with a treatment of equality and fairness.
What are the USPs that highlight Supercounsellors’ uniqueness in the industry you are catering to?
Quality with time given to the clients as per their expectations. Furthermore, I have learned that all students are different in their approaches and require different as well as specific attention. we organized tests to analyze them and make them speak, write, and take part in different activities.
Sometimes we use projectors, sometimes fun activities, during the pandemic we used to conduct online sessions with Digitally Driven technology support with the help of Google Form, Typeform, ZOOM App, Mentimeter.com, Padlet, Kahoot.com, Microsoft team, Google Team, etc., where we utilized different ways to specifically get in touch with the students.
Apart from this, we follow ARCS – Attention, Relevance, Confidence and Satisfaction, VARK – Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic approach, we learned that like all five fingers of a hand are not same, similarly, every student requires separate and specific solution based on the analysis and test results. All these are our USPs, which are appreciated by everyone we serve.
As an experienced professional, what would you like to advise the budding aspirants willing to enter the business world?
Focus is a must. But maintaining it in the long-term and too constantly is not an easy task. This is where your passion, perseverance, and willpower come to your aid. Your focus should be on your goal, what the consumers are expecting from you and how their expectations are changing and how you can match them every time they change. So, focus again and again. And if you get distracted you must refocus. That is the only way to succeed in any profession.
