As our civilization is surmounting the adversities of the COVID-19 crisis, futuristic healthcare perfection is the need of our present times. And for that, we need a healthcare ecosystem inspired by comprehensive care solutions integrated with perfection and precision.
In other words, an advanced healthcare environment. Where each and every unit, including clinics, clinicians, hospitals, staff of caregivers, doctors including surgeons, pathologists and Orthopedicians, must be obsessed with quality. They have to completely believe in doing things promptly and accurately—where everyone has embodied the ethos of perfection and precision.
The first step toward such a future begins with a doctor, who believes in an innovative ideology and has imbibed the benchmarks in the founding principles of his hospital. Meet CMD, GERMANTEN HOSPITALS GROUP – Dr Mir Jawad Zar Khan, Senior Orthopedic Surgeon from Hyderabad, who specializes in complicated fractures, joint replacements, spine surgery and arthroscopic ACL/PCL reconstruction, and meniscal repair surgeries. He has been recognized among ‘India’s Top Orthopedicians’ by MEDGATE TODAY and has been awarded Iconic Achievements in Joint Replacements and Sports injuries in South India.
Dr Mir Jawad reveals, “Our collaboration with German doctors brings sophisticated technologies and procedures to India for the best healthcare services. Reengineering Present Healthcare
Germanten Hospitals has received the ‘Best Orthopaedic Hospital in South India’ award at the 19th Global Edition of the Business Leader of the year 2021 conducted by Economic Times Group.
It is a 250-beds, Super-Specialty Hospital that maintains high-quality standards in subspecialties of Orthopedic and other specialties, including Neurology, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Gynecology, General Surgery, Pulmonology, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Critical Care. Adding to this scenario, Dr Mir Jawad states, “Our journey started with 50-bed Hospital. Now we have over 250 beds. And we are further expanding into multiple branches.”
Germanten Best Orthopedic Hospital in Hyderabad has been offering world-class treatment and facilities to patients with compassion, teamwork, transparency and a process-driven approach. Dr Mir shares, “We are delivering 400 to 500 monthly surgeries and 5000 to 6000 yearly surgeries with hundred per cent accuracy and not a single case of infection. That means a ratio of zero infections.”
Germanten has also been recognized by The Times of India All India Multispecialty Hospitals Ranking Survey-2019 as ‘Best Emerging Multispecialty Hospital in Hyderabad-2019.’ By bringing in the best healthcare practices from across the world, Germanten got the most prestigious and coveted NABH accreditation from the highest body of accreditation in India.
Although joint pain is not a life-threatening condition, it does cause a lot of discomforts and severe pain. The quality of life is compromised, sometimes beyond relief. Prosthetic joints have come as saviors to patients with painful joints.
Dr Mir Jawad and his team conduct thousands of joint replacements at Germanten Hospital annually and the number is increasing with each passing year. “With German technology at the forefront, we deliver cutting edge technology and skills in joint replacement surgery,” mentions Dr Mir Jawad.
Times Health All India Orthopedic Ranking Survey-2019 awarded it with the ‘Best Emerging Orthopedic Hospitals’ acknowledgement. For years, Germanten has been offering quality healthcare to the people for their diverse medical needs.
Diseases like osteoporosis, arthritis or injury damage the cartilages and bones, cause pain, weakness, reduced mobility, deformity, instability and disrupt the smooth movement of the joint. A Total Knee Replacement (aka Arthroplasty) does not replace the whole lower end of the femur, the upper end of the tibia and the patella, instead, TKR replaces only their articulating surfaces.
Dr Mir Jawad states, “TKR is a ‘Quality of Life Improvement Surgery.’ After TKR you can walk, play golf, swim gently, drive a car or a two-wheeler and generally do all the things you did before your knee pain began.” He and his team have conducted over ten thousand joint replacements, so Germanten is the ideal hospital for patients needing TKR.
Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine
“Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure through small cuts used by us surgeons to examine, diagnose, view and treat wear and tear and traumatic injuries related to the interior of a joint,” says Dr Mir Jawad. Germanten Hospital is giving excellent results in joint replacement spine arthroscopy trauma, with a very good recovery and patient satisfaction rate. In fact, patients are recovering so fast that they themselves are giving positive Google reviews online.
Injuries routinely suffered by athletes in professional contact sports like Football, Cricket, Tennis, Rugby, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho etc. This results in bruises, muscle strains, fractures, and head injuries, which are sometimes fatal. There are a variety of sports medicines and remedies available at Germanten to treat sports injuries.
Orthopedic Centre of Excellence Services
Germanten Hospital has always strived to give those medical and surgical services which society requires. Thus, the transition from a dedicated orthopedic and trauma hospital to a multi-specialty hospital was a gradual evolution. Society wanted treatment on other ailments in the same professionally skilled and seamless manner that Germanten Hospital was famous for, and it added more medical and surgical specialties and super-specialties in its scope of services.
“Now apart from our core skills of managing injuries and diseases of the bones, joints and related tissues, we have expanded into many more services some of which are flowering into Centers of Excellence,” adds Dr Mir Jawad. Under strong management and astute leadership, Germanten has become a Centre of Excellence for specialties like Orthopedic, Neurology, Reconstructive, and Plastic surgery.

Medical Tourism
Medical tourism refers to people travelling to other countries for medical treatment. In the past, this usually referred to those who travelled from less-developed countries to top-notch medical centers in highly developed countries for treatments which were unavailable at home.
Now the trend in medical tourism, more commonly called Medical Value Destination–has changed. Patients from less developed countries also travel to India because the required treatment is not available in their own countries.
While patients from developed countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, England, etc., also come to Germanten Hospital because treatment costs at Germanten are much less compared to the cost in their home countries; yet the quality of medical and surgical services is equal or comparable to the services given in developed countries.
Medical procedures ranging from cosmetic surgery, and dental work to orthopedic surgery can now be provided at high quality and affordable rates in Germanten Hospital.
The services for Germanten’s international patients include:
- Second medical opinion: In case you have second thoughts about the medical opinion provided by your hometown doctor you can contact Germanten.
- Diet: Complete recovery is a comprehensive process that also includes Diet. At Germanten, the doctors assess the dietary needs of the international clients and provide hygienically prepared, nutritionally enriched meals. Germanten’s nutritional experts/dietitians supervise the entire process.
- Accommodation: Germanten provides rooms based on patients’ requirements and budget. It has provisions for sharing and private rooms. These have been designed keeping in mind the safety and comfort of their patients. The team Germanten can arrange their stay at star hotels too.
- Airport pick up and drop: Complimentary pick up and drop facilities are available for all its international patients. For critically ill patients, the team also provides well-equipped mobile medical assistance.
- Travel Desk: Germanten has a dedicated travel desk to ensure the healthcare experience of its international patients is a memorable one. There is a coordinator available for handling all visitors/patients’ queries and making the required arrangements too.
AIM Health-Tech
Germanten Hospital is the pioneer in popularizing new standards including advanced technological benchmarks, bringing the beam of hope to its patients with 45 years of legacy in orthopedic.
Dr Mir Jawad’s name goes hand in hand with Knee Replacement Surgery. He pioneered Robotic and Computer Navigation Surgery for knee joint replacement in India. Germanten Hospitals has the most modern and sophisticated class100 Laminar operation theatres for strict prevention of infection.
“As a well-experienced charisma, Dr Mir Jawad shared his opinions on how the adoption of modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and robotics streamlined the hospital procedures. He said, “We are always focused on adopting all kinds of advanced technology, including our medical equipment, electronic devices, hardware and even software.”
We not only use them in our patient services including timely treatments, surgical, medicinal, patient data and record management, billing, and feedback but also in all our service departments including complete paperless system management,” he added.
Along with robotics process analysis, and robotics for surgical processes, Germanten Hospital’s radiology labs, OTs, and ICUs, patients rooms, service centres from back-end to front-end are always connected with each other and the central hub in real-time thanks to their use of cloud computing and the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT).
Smart Operating Suits
During joint replacement surgery, bone ends are cut using a power saw and cement is used to fix large metallic implants to the bone. All this increases the chance of inflection even from minor contamination. To reduce the contamination from the operation team, ‘Body Exhaust System’ or ‘Space Suit’ is worn by the operating team.
This ‘Space Suit’ system consists of a helmet with a battery-operated fan, and a gown made up of a special fabric that is impermeable with water or blood, thus maintaining the sterility throughout the long surgical procedure.
“The visor helps in preventing sweat and saliva droplets from contaminating the wound. Although such space suits are an additional cost in joint replacement surgery, at Germanten Hospitals, we prefer such space suits to reduce the possibility of infection to the minimum,” expressed Dr Mir Jawad.
Words of Wisdom
As a piece of advice for the budding entrepreneurs who aspire to venture into the Orthopedic Treatment space, Dr Mir Jawad shared, surely at first, they will have to build a reputation. They must know that Orthopedic treatment on paper and in practice are two different things, however, they need to build up their profile first.
They need to get the degrees and fellowship, they must build up a profile and then if they are normally working somewhere as a consultant, it’s okay, however starting a hospital is a separate thing or becoming a carrier oriented orthopedic surgeon is a different way altogether.
Entrepreneurship including hospital management is an entirely different approach. So, they need to recognize which sector they want to go to—profession wise. To build and boost their potential in the profession and the independent practice they must undergo fellowships and get advanced training in robotics. However, running a hospital successfully with an entrepreneurial mindset is the real challenge, always and forever.
Engineering a Healthy Future
Dr Mir Jawad’s visions for the future are vast. This year he is planning to open multiple branches or acquire some hospitals in different areas to offer proficient services to the vast population wherever it is needed.
He aims to enable it all over India and abroad, also, wherever there is scope for people to use this service in the best way possible so people can avail Germanten’s services anywhere and everywhere.”
