The demand for protective items like latex gloves, masks, etc. has picked up in the last few days. Supermodel Naomi Campbell wore a hazmat suit to the airport. Taking a cue from her Indians are stocking up these suits to protect themselves from the Covid-19.
Sale of 300 hazmat suits has taken place in the Nirvana Being, located in the Capital Khan market, Delhi. The Online store, Indiamart, said that the demand for such suits has jumped fivefolds in February.
IndiaMart CEO Dinesh Agarwal, “The increase in demand can be linked to the coronavirus since the platform has witnessed a sudden increase in inquiries of all the medicinal items which were prescribed to safeguard oneself from the virus, be it surgical masks, hand sanitizers, etc.” He added that items like tissue paper, hand towels, and wet wi[pes are also selling in bigger numbers.
The chairman of Medanta-The Medicity, Naresh Trehan, said, “These suits are advisable only for those looking after Covid-19 patients. Rest should follow the protocol of social distancing and washing hands frequently.”
Jai Dhar Gupta, founder of Nirvana Being said, “This is the first time we are keeping these bodysuits.” 1,200 imported hazmat suits have been stocked up by the company along with 5,000 pairs of latex gloves. Apollo Pharmacy Retail has also been selling these suits in from last two weeks due to the increase of Covid-19 cases.
CEO of Apollo Pharmacy Retail, Jaya Kumar, said, “The demand for these suits has definitely gone up…. These are being used especially be the caregivers and hospital staff.” These suits are also available on Flipkart as well.
“We have manufactured goggles for supply to the government of India (Ministry of Health), per their specific request,” said a spokesperson of 3M after they received a request for the first time in India.
