India’s 5G Spectrum Auction is Expected in May

The long-awaited 5G spectrum auction would take place in the month of May, if the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) submits its rules recommendations for sale process by March, said a senior official of the telecom department.

India’s Telecom Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, earlier this month had said that TRAI is expected to submit the rules recommendations by March and the department of telecommunication (DoT) is simultaneously carrying out the required processes to hold the auction at the earliest.

K Rajaraman, telecom secretary of India said that “TRAI has indicated that they will send recommendations by March. Thereafter, it will take us a month to make a decision on it.”

According to DoT, a 5G network would be able to deliver download speeds 10 times faster than 4G services.
