Reliance Jio has collaborated with the Luxembourg-based satellite solution provider SES, to form a new initiative called Jio Space Technology Limited. The partnership is aimed at providing large-scale and affordable internet services to Indians by using satellite technology.
In the partnership, Jio and SES will own 51 and 49 percent equity stakes respectively. In a press statement, Jio said, “multi-orbit space network technology, i.e., a combination of geostationary (GEO) and medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite constellations capable of delivering multi-gigabit links and capacity to companies, will be used to achieve the purpose.”
The satellite technology-based internet speed could go up to 100 gigabits per second, Jio claimed. The press statement further added that “The partnership between Jio and SES will bolster the development of extensive gateway infrastructure in India to provide internet services within the country.”
