June GST collections stand at Rs 90,917 crore

The June 2020 collection of goods and services tax (GST) amounted to 90,917 gross level, 9% below last month, according to the revenue department, Wednesday.

The collections are higher than those registered in April and May, with GST collections of Rs 32,294 crore and Rs 62,009 crore for May, the peak month of lockdown due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The collections were however smaller for both months than those of 2019. In April sales dropped by 72% on-year and by 38% on-year in May.

For the month of June, of the combined collections of Rs 90,917 crore, CGST was Rs 18,980 crore, SGST was Rs 23,970 crore, IGST was Rs 40,302 crore, including Rs 15,709 crore collected for the importation of goods and Cess was Rs 7,665 crore, including Rs 607 crore collected for the importation of goods.

The government said GST revenue was 41% lower in the first quarter of the year than in the same period last year, but a large number of taxpayers still have time to file their return.
