London based Otermans Institute is bringing ‘ Soft Skills & Transferable Skills’ for School and College Students. Soft skill is need of the hour in Indian education ecosystem. No one can deny the fact that our existing education infrastructure is unable to ensure the possibilities of employment for millions of students, many of whom are even termed as ‘unemployable’. But do we ever question whose fault it really is?
Do we ever think of adopting the real skills required for the job market from the beginning of our education? “It’s time to bring the change in education ecosystem to make the future generation job ready”, believes Mr. Dev Aditya, a London based social innovator who is bringing the much needed change in education to India & the subcontinent.
Mr. Dev Aditya who passed out from St. Paul’s school Darjeeling founded Otermans Institute (OI) in London along with Dutch Researcher Dr Pauldy Otermans, soon after they realized the prevailing gap of ‘Soft Skills & Transferable Skills’ training in Indian & Bangladeshi Schools when they were in a tour to teach new academic scientific methods in the region a year ago.
Mr. Dev & his team have extensively travelled across various states of India including Bihar, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Maharashtra, besides neighboring countries like Nepal and Bangladesh to create awareness about this essential soft skills training.
In the upcoming academic year, Otermans Institute (OI) London is launching Soft Skill Training Course for school students starting from Class 9. This year-long style course will enhance some of the key skills required for getting high-income employment including key skills like communication, business etiquette and career planning among the students. “We are confident to train at least 5000 students in India alone in 2020 itself. “says Mr. Dev.
Mr. Umesh Dwiwedi, the principal of Hillwood Academy, where they conducted one of the training sessions in Uttarakhand, said, “I have never seen a program that can teach key concepts so quickly and have such a lasting improvement on students”.
Recently, Mr. Dev Aditya was awarded the prestigious “Bengal’s Pride Award” at the Churchill Room, in the House of Commons of the UK parliament for his exemplary work on this project and other social innovation projects across UK and the world. He was also elected as the first ever non-European Vice-President at Brunel University where he proved his mettle by initiating handful of projects for South Asian Students and to bring the Post Study Visa back for Indian students which is now becoming a reality.
He and Dr Otermans have previously worked on various Social Projects with British Prime Minister Mr. Boris Johnson, including an Award Winning Green Transportation Project called “Brunel Bike”.
This London based Curriculum & Skill Development institute also runs it’s CSR project called ‘Project Aditto’ which aims to provide training to up-skill teachers of under privileged schools without any cost. This Project helps to impart the skill in modern blended learning techniques to improve education and to nurture it at a grass root level.
Ottermans Institute (OI) London and Dev Aditya are taking a big leap to up-skill a generation through soft skills training for the next five years. “We are confident that OI will definitely train 100,000 students by 2023”, expresses Dev. Dr Otermans. On the other hand said “barriers to the English language will be a big hurdle which we aim to solve by incorporating communicative and spoken English training in our modules.”
