Qualcomm Announces New Fast Charging Tech That Can Charge Batteries from Zero to Fifty percent In Five Minutes

Qualcomm

American chipmaker Qualcomm announced on Monday the newest version of its fast-charging technology i.e. Quick Charge 5. It is the world’s first 100W+ fast-charging system for smartphones that aims to charge the battery from 0 to 50% in five minutes.

Quick Charge 5 depends on two new integrated circuits for power control – SMB 1396 and SMB1398. They accept single and dual-cell batteries that are capable of handling voltages in excess of 20V for wired and wireless power sources.

Aside from offering quick charging speeds, Quick Charge 5 uses Qualcomm Battery Save and a new Qualcomm Smart Id Adapter Capabilities technology to improve power efficiency and battery life on the compatible unit.

To improve power transfer capacity, battery life, and protection, Qualcomm has allowed Dual/Triple Charge technology, adaptive input voltage, INOV4 (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage) which is claimed to be 10-degree Celsius cooler than Quick Charge 4+.

Quick Charge 5 is scheduled to launch on consumer products in Q3 2020. For now, Snapdragon 865, 865 Plus, and all future advanced Snapdragon smartphone chipsets are supported.

Xiaomi has been reported as the first company to introduce Fast Charge 5 smartphones in the future.
