India has always been a nation of farmers, depending entirely on its agricultural prowess. Today, it has begun depending on its industry. Still, agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood for the ninety-five per cent of rural India and half of the semi-urban India.

Yet, the fact remains that the Indian agricultural sector has been in a mode of distress lately. COVID pandemic took that distressful scenario to a disastrous level. Everybody agreed that farmers are the most affected people.

However, it took a keen observation of Abhishek Singh, the Founder and Director of The FarmPure, to develop a technological solution that, if equipped with the latest tools and technology, Indian Farmers could progress in their attempts to become more self-reliant in the agricultural sector.

For this, Abhishek enabled them to use modern machinery, which is proving highly useful in the farming field. That way, they could produce organic food, which consumers could get directly through The FarmPure, without any middleman.

Abhishek shares, “We are a small team of passionate people who want to change how food comes from farmers to end-users. We are a place where you can find locally grown, organic produce at the most affordable price.

We will bring a curated range of Cereals, Organic and Natural Flours, Grains, Raw sugars, power-packed snacks, Seeds, Nuts, Cold-pressed organic oils also used as cooking oils (edible oils), Organic pulses, Digestion friendly spices, Filter coffee, organic honey, organic jaggery to complement your wellness lifestyle.

We promote organic and natural foods which preserve the environment and provide wholesome nutrition. Through The FarmPURE, we aim to connect better health with better food.”

Abhishek spoke with the team of Insights Success for its latest edition of India’s 40 under 40 Brightest Business Leaders, where he elaborated on this unique and revolutionary idea called The FarmPure. Let Food Be Thy Medicine and Medicine Be Thy Food.

The highlights of the interview are given below.

Please tell us about the saga of The FarmPure since its inception.

The journey till now has been incredible! It wasn’t all smooth. However, successfully becoming India’s leading brand to supply farm-produced organic products directly was worth all the pain.

The gist lies in the fact that consumers always wanted to buy products from the farmers, as the prices went down due to the absence of any middlemen. However, it wasn’t always possible in the past due to a lack of communication and resources.

After FarmPure came into existence, both parties got a proper platform to communicate, and the entire process got streamlined. This was the major building USP that resulted in a win-win situation for both the parties.

The consumers get quality products at low rates, and the farmers keep the maximum portion of their share. Plus, our advanced storage and delivery technology have protected the crops from getting wasted. Plus, FarmPure could motivate the farmers and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector.

It is a complete ecosystem where all the steps get automated. We are working on aolution and once implemented our customers will be well-informed about the farmers and the place of production through the unique tracking system. We will embed an individual tracking on every package that contains detailed information about the farmers and the produce and the location where it was grown.

Also, we regularly conduct developmental programs for our registered farmers to upskill them. I once envisioned a change in the farming sector. The increasing consumer and farmer registration rates show that we could bring a difference in people’s lives and add more value.

What was your inspiration behind venturing into the business arena?

One day I was in a brainstorming session with my branding team! There I came to realize how unorganized the farming sector became. I mean, the COVID affected it so severely that quality just vanished. Even if you managed to find quality products, the prices were out of the range of common people. I mean, there was nothing stable. Quality, price, everything was a total mess. Between everything, the poor farmers were suffering.

Being from a farmer’s background, it hit me hard in the heart. Later, while I was pondering over this issue, I came to the conclusion that the reason for such instability was the communication gap between the farmers and the consumers.

I questioned myself, ‘What if the consumers could directly purchase from the farmers?’ And the obvious answer was better quality and affordable rates. There would be no middlemen to exploit the farmers, and the quality products will directly reach the consumers. Plus, the farmers will be able to keep a maximum share of their hard-earned profits.

Basically, I wanted to bridge the gap between the consumers and farmers. But now the question was how!

After some more research and brainstorming, the idea of creating a farmers’ ecosystem came to my mind, where farmers will be able to directly sell their products to the consumers without any interference from the middlemen. And our consumers will be able to know everything about the farmer. All that the farming industry needed was a platform, and this is how The FarmPure started.

What were the initial challenges you had to surmount to ensure The FarmPure’s success rate reached greater heights?

The primary challenge was to create a base point from which things could get a start. Actually, everything was so scattered that creating a central point took quite a bit of work on our end.

In our starting days, the technology was getting updated so fast that we were facing troubles to get adapted. Fortunately, we gradually picked the pace, and everything is smooth now.

And yes, hiring talent became a challenge too. As you know, this is a business with quite a different philosophy, and also, the type of work is different. We were looking for individuals who could completely understand the philosophy and apply it through their work. Initially, it was a challenge, but we got in touch with some brilliant people who took the company to the place where it is today.

What professional values and qualities do you think your clients value in you and your company the most?

Well, dedication is something that our clients love about us. Like, we always strive to stick to our promises and try to run our business based on a customer-centric approach. Also, I feel our strong desire to add value and serve has attracted people.

What USPs highlight your brand/company’s uniqueness in the industry you are catering to?

‘No middlemen’ is our company’s USP.  Our primary motive is to cut out all middlemen who run away with exorbitant profits, leaving the real heroes only with pennies. With this, the farmers finally get what they deserve, and the consumers are getting products at far cheaper rates without compromising the quality.

As an experienced professional, what would you like to advise the budding aspirants willing to enter the business world?

The first thing I would like to say is to always stick to your ethics, no matter what. Currently, people are more concerned about the technicalities of the business. Still, I realized that along with all the necessary training, it is essential to be honest and stick to that honesty. You will never face any dearth in your life if you stay honest.

Secondly, always keep a value-centric approach. Try to figure out the consumers’ pain points and attend to them with complete dedication. Always stay in the mode of ‘how can I solve the problem of x.’ Do not consider the profits as the primary motive. Yes, undeniably, profits are very important, but they should not be the only criteria to focus upon. If you can genuinely help people, can profits stay far away?

Why wouldn’t people want to keep returning to a company that is oriented to serve and can offer value? This is the trust factor, which you need to build without all your dedication and hard work, and this should be an ongoing process.

Next, what is important is finding out your passion because you won’t be able to work on the other steps without this.

How do you envision your company’s operations with the emerging technologies and automated tools revolutionizing the business world by enabling innovations?

Our company will maximize the usage of advanced technology. In fact, we are already using modern technologies, but we are keeping an eye on every change that the technology world is undergoing. And yes! We will surely make more usage of SaaS technology.
