On Monday, August 17, 2020, the social media giant, Facebook said that it prohibits hate speech and content that incites violence. It says that these policies are enforced globally without regard to the political position or influence of any person.
The Wall Street Journal claims in a report that Facebook ignores its hate speech rules for the BJP politicians. A spokesperson of Facebook said, “We’re making progress on enforcement and conduct regular audits of our process to ensure fairness and accuracy.”
The report said that Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, accused the BJP and RSS of spreading ‘fake news’ using WhatsApp and Facebook. Ankit Das, Facebook’s director of public policy for India, South and Central Asia, filed a complaint at Cyber Cell Unit, Delhi Police against a people issuing life threats online postings.
