Popular social networking site, Facebook, has named Ajit Mohan, who was previously C.E.O of Hotstar a video streaming service as the managing director and vice president of India operations. This position was held by Umang Bedi until he resigned in October last year. The position was lying vacant ever since and the responsibilities were handled by interim MD and South Asia director, Sandeep Bhushan.
According to reports, Ajit Mohan will be overseeing the global marketing, sales, policy, partnerships and communication. Speaking of this David Fischer, Vice – President of Business and Marketing Partnerships at Facebook Inc stated India to be one of the largest and strategically important countries for the company. According to him the need for investing in India is critical and Ajit’s experience will help in having a positive impact in India. According to other various sources, Ajit issued a statement in which he said that he was happy to take up the position and will ensure that he uses the position to work alongside stakeholders and assist in building meaningful and cordial communities across the country.
On the academic front, Ajit has an MBA from the prestigious Wharton School. He brings with him over two decades worth of experience in various companies like The Wall Street Journal where he was a columnist and Star TV Network, where he worked for 3 years. The video streaming service Hotstar was his own brainchild which has a plethora of content to select and watch.
Facebook had over 142 million monthly active users in March 2016 and the number instantly saw a rise of 201 active users in July and by the first six months of 2017, 50 million more users were added to it. According to various sources, Facebook now has its largest market in India even ahead of the United States of America.
But with the level of know – how that Ajit Mohan has, it can be understood that Facebook India is in the hands of a person worthy of it.
