Access to timely and correct medical care is a fundamental human right. However, it is one of the most difficult to provide. The more sophisticated and advanced the treatment is, the more expensive it is. Technology has boosted the degree of medical care that can be provided, however, it has also created a gap known as affordability. In a developing nation like India which is still battering poverty, the situation becomes even grimmer.

One of the primary challenges hospitals across the country are facing is the high cost of advanced technology. In order to ensure better treatment protocols and medical outcomes, it is mandatory to invest in the latest technology. However, the high cost of such technologies and equipment often make it hard to afford for general patients.

Amidst the high demand and low supply, AMRI Hospitals has always been focused on providing the best treatment protocols to patients, backed by advanced technology, which ensures quality medical outcomes. The hospital group boasts of some of the best physicians and surgeons, trained at the best medical schools from across the world, who continue to upgrade their skills and technical knowledge in a bid to strive for the stated goal of quality and affordable treatment.

The Hospital

AMRI Hospitals is one of the leading private healthcare providers of Eastern India, with four super speciality hospitals at Dhakuria, Mukundapur, and Salt Lake, in Kolkata, and at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, along with a state-of-the-art daycare centre on Southern Avenue, Kolkata. The Group serves of around 3.5 lakh patients annually, conducting more than 15,000 successful surgeries, backed by a roster of 1,200+ doctors and a well-trained force of nursing & paramedical staff, across more than 1,000 beds.

AMRI Hospitals, through its four multi-speciality tertiary hospitals, provides a range of super speciality services in cardiology, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, besides offering several specialized clinics for targeted treatments in ENT, spine, reconstructive surgery, laser surgery, etc.

AMRI Hospitals has always made it a point to invest in the latest technologies. One such technology is O-ARM, which makes conducting spinal surgeries more precise and offers much better medical outcomes. AMRI has also been investing in the latest technologies like endoscopic surgery, laser surgery, and even robotic surgery.

A Seasoned Leader

AMRI Hospitals is currently headed by the Group CEO, Mr Rupak Barua. He is a veteran in Eastern India’s healthcare sector and took up the reins of the Group in 2014. A post-graduate degree holder in marketing, Mr Barua also successfully pursued MDPs from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM-Calcutta. He is the Co-Chairman, Healthcare Sub Committee of CII (Eastern Regions) and a National Industry Expert in CII’s National Skills Council, besides being an active member of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and several other industry and social bodies.

Under his guidance, the hospital Group has put in place several measures that will help it sail into the coming decades, where healthcare will be more focussed on technology. While the Group has already set a deadline of 2022 to turn the whole process of patient registration, discharge and prescriptions totally paperless, internally, too, constant changes are being made to make the systems and processes smoother and free of human errors.

Reaching Out to the Needy

AMRI Hospitals takes special efforts to fulfil its social responsibility by conducting free health check-up camps across Eastern India for various age and income groups. Recently, on the occasion of World AIDS Day, the group conducted a free HIV test camp for sex workers at a red light district in Kolkata. The Group hospitals have also been investing heavily in spreading awareness of various diseases like cardiac problems, diabetes, kidney ailments, etc.

Adding a Personal Touch

AMRI Hospitals, through its various tie-ups with external agencies, is working on making home healthcare service an important feature, offering personalised care and services to patients, particularly the elderly. The Group already has launched a service targeted at NRIs, who have parents living in India, so that they can have peace of mind even from afar, confidently knowing that their parents will be taken care of both in cases of emergencies and for routine check-ups.

Looking Forward

AMRI Hospitals has not only been going strong, it continues to remain among the top private healthcare service providers in Eastern India. The Group, which currently has 1,000 beds across its four units in Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar, plans to add 800 more beds. Besides expansion of facilities at its Mukundapur unit, and a large Greenfield project at Rajarhat New Town, both in Kolkata, the Group is in the process of setting up a specialized cancer hospital at Bhubaneswar. The Group, which is making its presence felt across the North East, and even in neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar, foresees a future that is not just worth looking forward to, but exciting as well.
